COAT-OF-ARMS OF MSGR. ADOLFO TITO YLLANA
Titular Archbishop-Elect of Montecorvino
Apostolic Nuncio in Papua New Guinea and in The Solomon Islands

Part I. Historical background of the Coat-of-Arms.

When Monsignor Yllana arrived in Taiwan, His Eminence Paul Cardinal Shan, S.J., Bishop of Kaohsiung, gave him a Chinese name in keeping with the tradition in Taiwan. The name given was (in Chinese characters) : YFULIN (composed of and written in three words)

Y = exchange, barter, change, easy, lenient, a Chinese family name, to facilitate;
FU = Gospel, blessing, bliss, happines, good fortune, good luck;
LIN = copious rain falling continuously, grace.

Cardinal Shan interprets this name thus:
1) Facilitate the beneficial rain of the Gospel
2) Facilitate the graces and blessings of God
3) in other words, to be an evangelizer.

Part II. Archbishop Montezemolo's explanation of the Coat-of-Arms of Monsignor Yllana.

The colors in all the four parts wish to indicate the Faith (blue) as the beginning of grace coming from God and pervades everything, to which the human will responds to (silver) in the practice of the virtues.
- The star indicates the light of sanctifying grace;
- The rose represents the Virgin Mary, mother and help of all Christians (here the rose represents Our Lady of Peñafrancia, the Patroness of the Bicol Region, to whom the Archbishop-elect, just like every Bicolano, has a special devotion and attachment);
- The undulating waves indicate water, which penetrates everywhere it passes making life flourish, as the pastoral work of the Archbishop-elect is indicated in the motto "to Preach (proclaim the Gospel, announce the Good News or evangelize) and to Serve".
- The book indicates the Gospel, as the Word of God, which inspires, teaches and guides every action of life, be it in evangelizing as in serving.
